An apostolic visitation of the Archdiocese of Cologne, Germany, has been concluded, and the results will be forwarded to the Vatican. The investigation—led by Cardinal Anders Arborelius of Stockholm—was undertaken on ordered from Pope Francis, because of intense criticism of the handling of sex-abuse complaints in Cologne. Cardinal Rainier Maria Woelki, the current leader of the archdiocese, was cleared by a preliminary inquiry, which found fault with his predecessors, Cardinals Joseph Höffner and Joachim Meisner.
