Today is the memorial of Bl. Franz Jägerstätter, the Austrian peasant who conscientiously refused to serve in Hitler’s immoral war machine and suffered accordingly. Like St. Thomas More, Franz Jägerstätter was a devoted husband and a doting father of three young girls, and he was ripped to pieces on account of his arrest and confinement.
