Healing Your Marriage
We hadn’t spoken much in nearly six months. I gave birth to Auggie, our fifth baby, in March 2020, and the world was worn out. Ben and I were no exception. Raising children in this shaky society, everything uncertain and not much grounding us, chipped away at our ability to listen, to love. It felt […]
As I glanced outside my kitchen window at the flowers blooming in my backyard, I couldn’t help but feel the joy and anticipation of which one would bloom next. No matter how many different kinds of flowers my husband, six young children and I plant in the garden, there can never be too many. The […]
Years ago, when my now-middle-schooler daughter was just a toddler, I remember taking her to the Stations of the Cross at our parish. At the time, most of what her experience of Jesus had been was all tenderness – from babyhood, she blew kisses to the tabernacle as we left church. My master’s degree in […]

I am a mother to three daughters (possibly four, if their miscarried sibling was a girl, too). These three are at vastly different stages of spiritual and emotional development. My oldest is a tween, and on the cusp of all that comes with adolescence. My middle girl is in the golden days of elementary school […]
Christian accompaniment involves a continual reaching out, extending beyond what we think we deserve. It means a willingness to enter into another person’s suffering in such a way that we are both transformed by Divine Love.
The example of the Holy Family shows us that the members of a Christian family must influence, support, and challenge each other to mature in holiness. Every family must also reflect this mutual support and challenge in holiness on the following three levels.
“Let us not resist His first coming, so that we may not regret His second.” When we find ourselves harried and frazzled with all the things we think we need to do, we are resisting His birth in us. The lights of the candles on the Advent Wreath break through the darkness, reminding us of the Light of Christ that we anticipate during this holy season. Where did this tradition come from, of lighting four candles in an evergreen wreath to mark the weeks preceding Christmas? Like many of our Church traditions, the use […]
