On July 27, 2020, the Holy Father appointed Professor Andrea Arcangeli Director of the Office of Health and Hygiene of the Governorate of Vatican City State, announced the Holy See Press Office.

The appointment of Professor Arcangeli, who up to now was Deputy Director of the same Office, will come into force on August 1, 2020.

The Office of Health and Hygiene

 The Office of Health and Hygiene of the Governorate of Vatican City State provides the protection of public health and hygiene in the whole territory of Vatican City State.

Outside the Vatican’s territory, the Office of Health and Hygiene extends its activities too the Pontifical Villas of Castelgandolfo and other estates and areas indicated in the Lateran Treaty, within the limits specified by its juridical condition, established with an explicit normative.

Specifically, the Office provides the following institutional activities: healthcare and work medicine, legal medicine, protection of the physical and territorial environment, of areas of life and work, prevention and prophylaxis of infectious and diffusive diseases, vigilance of merchandise, care in deaths and veterinary health, vigilance of hygiene and sanitary facilities, and relations with entities and international health associations and of other States.
