Rick and Laura Brown, co-founders of Handshouse Studio, an educational nonprofit that replicates large historical objects using the precise techniques with which they were built, have gathered artisans from around the U.S. to hew oak timbers that could help rebuild the most famous church in Paris. But the French didn’t ask for help, and it remains to be seen if they’ll accept the work.
