(ZENIT News / Pernambuco, Brazil, 04.06.2022).- After learning of the situation in the Brazilian Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife, caused by copious rains, the Pontiff sent a 30,000 donation in the name of the Church through the local Caritas. The funds are being allocated to victims of the inclement weather, especially in the Pernambuco region.

A few days ago Archbishop Fernando Saburido of Olinda and Recife describe the situation to the Pope in a letter. “The heart of a good pastor watches over the poor. Francis’ donation reflects the Church’s love for the poor,” said Father Joatan Vitorino, President of Caritas who is also a parish priest.

The papal donation will be allocated to 148 parishes of the Archdiocese to help the affected families.
