NBC News has posted an investigative report on the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, criticizing the group’s president, William Donohue, for taking a salary of “more than a million dollars a year.”

Donohue said that the enormous salary figure was misleading, since the total represents “exit compensation” since he “will be retiring probably in the next few years.” In recent years studied by NBC, Donohue’s salary account for roughly one-third of the organization’s annual expenses, and also about one-third of annual revenue.
