The Hortus Deliciarum (Garden of Delights) is an encyclopedia compiled by Herrad von Landsberg, abbess of Hohenburg Abbey in Alsace, between 1167 and 1195. She created the stunning manuscript around 1175, using line to describe form and producing a highly stylized yet curiously modern-looking group of images.
