Visitors’ center planned on ‘Shepherds’ Field’ outside Jerusalem (Fides)

Construction has begun on a visitors’ center for pilgrims just outside Bethlehem, the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land has announced. The center is being built on “Shepherds’ Field” in the Palestinian town of Beit Sahour, just outside the city—where, according to the Gospel account, shepherds heard the angels’ announcement of the Messiah’s birth.
