A fragment of the veil of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of more than 150 relics to be venerated in six parishes in the archdiocese from May 10 to May 16. COURTESY TREASURES OF THE CHURCH

Relics of St. Joseph and the Virgin Mary, all Twelve Apostles and the true cross of Christ, St. Therese of Lisieux and St. Thomas Aquinas are just a few of more than 150 that will be venerated in coming days in at least six parishes in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

Presented by Companions of the Cross Father Carlos Martins of Detroit-based Treasures of the Church, the exposition’s first stop is 6:30 p.m. May 10 at Divine Mercy in Faribault. Each stop will include a presentation and teaching on relics to provide a catechetical and spiritual basis for the Walk with the Saints, Father Carlos said.

“The point of the teaching is nothing other than to present the basic Gospel message of Jesus Christ: that God is here right now and wants to be encountered,” Father Carlos said. “He touches us through the lives and the sacred remains of his saints. God never disappoints. He always ‘shows up.’”

Mara Mangan, director of faith formation at St. Dominic in Northfield, where the exposition will be held at 6 p.m. May 15, said she recommends the experience.

“If you ever wondered about the meaning of the ‘communion of saints,’ you’ll experience its meaning at the exposition,” she said.

Lisa Theus, a parishioner, said she plans to be there, and she’s experienced a similar relic display before.

“I went to one about two years ago — the talk beforehand was a great explanation of what relics are and why Catholics venerate them,” she said. “The exposition itself was a great way to spend time with the saints and learn more about these models of faith.”

Father Carlos said he attributes many physical and spiritual healings to exposition of the relics. “It is a most beautiful thing to see a parish, school” or other entity renewed after an exposition, he said.

Other stops in the archdiocese include 6:30 p.m. May 11 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Hastings; 7 p.m. May 12 at Epiphany in Coon Rapids; 6:30 p.m. May 14 at St. Alphonsus in Brooklyn Center; 6 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. May 16 at St. Patrick in Oak Grove.
