We do not have a full reckoning of the damage Theodore McCarrick caused, and the Vatican report does not even pretend to offer such a reckoning. That report only makes sense if you take refuge in a dream world where popes and experienced priests can calmly think that McCarrick shared his bed with his targeted victims just like the sisters shared a bed in Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women.
