For Americans, 4th of July Weekend is a time to get together with family and friends, mindful of the gratitude we have for the liberties our country has afforded us.

This year, though, things are different. With ongoing coronavirus-related shutdowns and restrictions, safety concerns due to riots and other related activity, and a country divided and on edge, nothing feels the same. Even municipal fireworks displays, a time-honored tradition for this holiday, have been cancelled in a number places. It seems that the spark of liberty is dwindling dangerously.

Many are feeling the emotional and spiritual toll of a world in chaos. Rather than a festive tone, there is an air of solemnity. It’s a time not just for gratitude for the blessings we’ve long enjoyed, but for reflection on what we may be losing — things we may have taken for granted — if we’re not very careful.

With everything that has been going on in the world, it has seemed that the machinations within the Church, once a daily distraction, have largely been shoved to the back burner, away from the public eye. I’d venture to say that most of us have thought less about Pope Francis and his agenda of pseudo-reform less in 2020 than we have at any time in his pontificate.

But the fight for the soul of Catholicism is not remotely finished. New threats loom as old ones continue to play out. Many Catholics have become deeply discouraged, and need to be affirmed, now more than ever, in their faith. They need the kind of resources 1P5 offers to not just inform them about what is happening now, but to help them go deeper in their understanding of our beautiful and ancient faith and its traditions — essential things that fortify all of us for the long darkness we seem to have entered into.

This is where you can help.

Last month, we fell short of our fundraising goal, not for the first time this year. 2020 has been a rollercoaster for all of us — I think that’s probably a huge understatement — and we know you’re feeling it too. But whenever we’ve asked, you’ve always come through.

So today I am asking you, if you have not already done so, to please prayerfully consider helping us to overcome our shortfall by making a tax-deductible* contribution to our work for July. Even modest donations are incredibly helpful. We have strength in numbers.

If you’d like to take an active role in supporting our mission to Rebuild Catholic Culture and Restore Catholic Tradition, you can do so right here:

For those who prefer to donate by mail, you can find instructions on how to do so right here.

And for those who have already given, or will give, I want to offer our sincere gratitude. We truly cannot do this work without you, our silent partners in the fight for our faith. Please remember that Masses for the previous month’s benefactors and their intentions are offered on the 13th of each month by the Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem. Masses are offered according to the 1962 Missal at the Priory of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Charles Town, WV. (For those of you still unable to attend Mass in person, the Canons stream Masses and parts of their divine office daily on their YouTube channel.)

May God bless you abundantly, and please, let’s pray for each other, for the safety and prosperity of our nations, and for the liberty and exaltation of the Church.

In Christ,
