Brothers and sisters, I am very close to you….

Following Wednesday’s General Audience, Pope Francis expressed this to all those affected in southern Mexico, by a major 7.5-magnitude earthquake registered in the region of Oaxaca, in the south of Mexico, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At least five lives were claimed and several were wounded by the quake which has caused extensive damage.

The Pope encouraged all those watching to pray for all those affected. “A violent earthquake struck the south of Mexico, claiming several victims, leaving many wounded and causing great damage.”

“May the help of God and their brothers and sisters,” he said, “give them strength and support.”

“Brothers and sisters,” Pope Francis concluded, “I am very close to you.”
