St. Alphonsus in Brooklyn Center informed parishioners May 11 about a potential case of COVID-19 among its clergy, posting on its website and Facebook page that the parish office would be closed until further notice.

“All confessions and communion appointments remain canceled until further notice,” and updates will be provided online, the posting said.
Father John Schmidt, pastor of St. Alphonsus, told The Catholic Spirit May 12 that a member of the clergy serving the parish wasn’t feeling well May 9. After talking with Father Schmidt, he sought medical care. He had a headache, body aches and his forehead felt warm, though he did not register a fever. He began to feel better the next day.
But test results for presence of the novel coronavirus are expected later this week. Out of caution, he is isolating himself at the rectory, with food delivered to him, Father Schmidt said.
He continues to participate in meetings using Zoom video conferencing.
If parishioners have questions, they can send a message to Father Schmidt on the parish website.
