On the occasion of the recently observed Labor Day, on May 1, the Pope made a special Appeal during today’s General Audience: “May the crisis give us the opportunity to make the dignity of the person and the dignity of work the center of our concern.”

“On May 1, I received several messages about the world of work and its problems,” he said. “I was particularly struck by that of the farm workers, among them many immigrants, who work in the Italian countryside,” he continued.

It’s true “that the current crisis affects everyone,” said the Pontiff, “but people’s dignity must always be respected,” he stressed.

Therefore, the Holy Father echoed the voice “of these workers and of all exploited workers. May the crisis give us the opportunity to make the dignity of the person and the dignity of work the center of our concern,” he concluded.
