The Argentine Bishops, gathered in the 184th meeting of the Argentine Episcopal Conference’s Permanent Commission, congratulated the Pope on the seventh anniversary of his pontificate, March 13, 2020, and addressed the coronavirus crisis, following the first deaths in the country.

The meeting, which was held on <March 10-11> in Buenos Aires, and presided over by Bishop Oscar Vicente Ojea of San Isidro, congregated some 20 Prelates, according to AICA News Agency.

The Prelates discussed the suspension of the 4th National Marian Congress, given the coronavirus infection and published preventive suggestions for the Eucharistic Celebrations.

The Prelates also thanked the Holy Father for the appointment of the new Apostolic Nuncio, Monsignor Miroslaw Adamczyk. Monsignor Aliaksandr Rahuinia, responsible for the Apostolic Nunciature’s Business, was present at the meeting and thanked the Executive Commission and the Bishops for their closeness and support in his task.

On Wednesday, March 11, the Dean of the Faculty of Canon Law of the Argentine Catholic University, Father Daniel Medina, explained the guidelines to follow in cases of sexual abuse, in which the accused are priests and the alleged victims are under-age (or individuals comparable to them), reported “Vatican News.”

Presented also at the meeting were reports of the Episcopal Commissions for Catholic Education and Catechesis and Biblical Animation of the Pastoral Ministry. And Father Adrian Leonardo Marzilli was elected Assistant Adviser to the Christian Family Movement in Argentina.

Monsignor Ojea also mentioned that Pope Francis’ Post-Synodal Exhortation “Querida Amazona” will be presented in the near future.

In addition, Argentine sociologist Fortunato Mallimaci, together with the Conicet team, illustrated to the Bishops the second study on religious beliefs and attitudes in the country.

Other subjects addressed were the economic reform of the Church and the agenda of the 119th Plenary Assembly, which will be held from Monday, May 11 to Friday, May 15, 2020.
