UPDATE 3/4    The news has been very unclear today with sensational headlines that imply more than the news actually is. First, news reports seem to be saying that people coming from some European countries including Switzerland, Italy, Spain and a few others are going into quarantine upon arrival in Israel.
Not true. When you research it the news is that Israeli nationals (citizens of Israel) who are returning from time spent in those countries will be asked to self-quarantine themselves when arriving home to Israel. This is NOT all arrivals — only Israeli nationals.
Second, those making transfers from the USA through airports in European cities are not considered as having been in those European countries. They have not spent time in Europe where they could be exposed to the virus. They are just passing from one plane to another.
Next, Israel is very careful and everyone that could possibly have been in contact with an infected person is in quarantine which is about 50,000 people. Actually, along with the US, Israel might be one of the safest places to be right now. The countries most effected by the coronavirus (China, Singapore and Italy) are restricted from arriving in Israel.
Second, I saw one report that the coronavirus is sweeping across Israel, where in reality they have found 3 new cases who are now in quarantine. At least one of them just returned from Italy where they caught the virus.
There is still no airlines from the US cancelling their flights, nor US citizens banned or restricted from entrance to Israel.
As far as I am concerned, nothing has changed. Israel had a record number of tourists arrive in February in spite of the sensational news. Our trips to Israel are moving forward without incident or change. We will keep our eye on the reliable news and keep in close touch with our contacts in Israel and in the US.
