Cardinal Philippe Barbarin, Archbishop of Lyon, who was found guilty of failing to report past acts of sexual abuse by a priest, has had his conviction overturned on appeal. Cardinal Barbarin had told an abuse victim that the statute of limitations protected an abusive priest, whom he did remove from ministry, but the appeals court ruled that alone was not obstruction of justice.
