Let us put our fears and doubts aside so that we can be God’s ambassadors of the love to anyone in need. Christ is our Good Samaritan. The Church has seen in the oil and wine that the Good Samaritan poured over the wounds of the injured man, images of the Sacraments, the wonderful means of Jesus’ mercy that bring us grace and heal our spiritual wounds. Every time we go before the Lord through confession or when we truly are sorry for our faults, our Lord is healing our wounds, especially the self-inflicted ones of sin. Like the Good Samaritan, he will spare no expense to give us the healing that we need. Our efforts to correspond to Jesus’ love and kindness will bear much fruit when we put Jesus’ words at the end of this parable into practice: “Go and do likewise.”
Like the Good Samaritan, Jesus has come to our rescue. Let us thank Jesus for loving us so much that he shouldered the wood of the cross to bring us to salvation. Let us never forget how much he has done for us.
