German prosecutors are investigating whether Cardinal Rainer Woelki of Cologne made a false statement under oath about his knowledge of sexual abuse in his archdiocese.

Cardinal Woelki has twice offered his resignation to the Pontiff; the Vatican has cleared him of canonical charges.
