Archbishop Hebda urges Catholics to vote Nov. 8

Archbishop Bernard Hebda turned to YouTube Oct. 28 as he urged Catholics to stay informed and vote in early absentee balloting or on election day itself, Nov. 8, for the midterm elections.

“As Americans and as Catholics, it is our right and responsibility to be involved in the political process,” the archbishop said, including voting in races that range from school boards to city councils to federal office.

Information on candidates and their stands on the issues, faithful citizenship, Church teaching on issues of the day, how and when to vote and more is available through Minnesota Catholic Conference, the public policy arm of Minnesota’s Catholic bishops, Archbishop Hebda said. This November’s elections include races for governor and lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state and state auditor. The entire Legislature — 67 seats in the Senate, 134 in the House — is on the ballot, as are all eight Minnesota U.S. House members.

Archbishop Hebda closed his videotaped comments with a prayer, saying: “May God bless you, God bless our state, and God bless our country.”
