Well, we knew it would get ugly but the left in America have gone full mafia tactics with the unprecedented leak of the draft opinion from the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade.

Never in the history of the court has a draft opinion been leaked. This smashes the constitutional norms of the court and the Republic itself – the norms that the left keep telling us they respect and are allegedly under attack from the right. 

We should not be surprised any more by what these people will do. They attempted to destroy an innocent man with allegations of sexual wrongdoing to prevent him becoming a Supreme Court Justice, so it is nothing to them to attempt to destroy one of the pillars of American governance. In short, the left will do anything if it means they can keep killing unborn children. 

This leak is a straight-up, stone cold, intimidation tactic. It was leaked to pressure the five justices who were going to vote to overturn Roe v Wade (the law that found the fictitious right to abortion that is not stated anywhere in the Constitution) to change their mind. It is the equivalent of the mob nobbling a jury. We know where you live, the dark forces say to each Justice. Justice Amy Coney Barrett has seven children. The threat to her and her family is real – we can only pray that she has the courage to stay the course and overturn the disastrous and divisive decision that was Roe v Wade. 

Note that if Roe v Wade is overturned, the issue of abortion will be returned to the individual states. This means that all the Democrat states can retain their grisly abortion-up-to-birth laws if they want to, and the conservative ones may decide, through a popular vote or the state legislatures, to limit abortion. 

So, the left has attempted to intimidate the Justices and destroy the normal operation of the Supreme Court to prevent a system of abortion laws operating pretty much as they do in Britain and much of Europe – namely, the people decide not five unelected Justices. 

One of the arguments favoured by pro-abortionists clamouring for the legal destruction of the unborn child is that women will have abortions anyway – it will just be pushed underground. Leaving aside that all criminal behaviour operates “underground”, it is not true that you end up with the same number of dead children irrespective of the abortion laws. 

This is so obviously untrue it should barely need stating – when you legalise something you get more of it. When you legalise something, you normalise it. In 2017, when abortion in Northern Ireland was permitted only if a woman’s life was at risk or there was a permanent or serious risk to her mental or physical health, the pro-life group Both Lives Matter ran an advert saying that there were 100,000 people alive today because of Northern Ireland’s restrictive abortion laws. This prompted complaints. 

The Advertising Standards Authority dismissed the complaints on the grounds that the ad was accurate. It said: “On balance, we concluded that the evidence indicated that there was a reasonable probability that around 100,000 people were alive in Northern Ireland today who would have otherwise been aborted had it been legal to do so.” One hundred thousand people, in tiny Northern Ireland, are alive because they had a restricted abortion regime. 

There have been at least 62 million abortions in the US since Roe v Wade. Only a fool would think the number would be the same if you had limited or severely limited abortion laws in the US. In sum, having restricted abortion laws saves lives. 

The truth is that having liberal abortion laws changes the culture of a country – it says that babies are expendable. It says that whatever injustice or discrimination a mother may have suffered which has resulted in her considering an abortion must be put right by the most vulnerable – her unborn child.

For the abortion industry, a liberal abortion regime is simply a money-maker. The more normalised abortion is, the greater the profits. Not only do they make money from killing a child in the womb, but in some cases, they get to sell its body parts too. This is demonic. 

Abortion takes a human life. Overturning Roe v Wade would go some way to righting the grave injustice that is American ultra-liberal national abortion law. At the very least the issue should be returned to the States. There, conservatives must make their case again, that destroying innocent human life should never be legal in a civilised nation. Only then can you start to build a pro-life culture that values mothers and their families.
