Cardinal Antonios Naguib, the retired Patriarch of the Coptic Catholic Church, died on March 18 at the age of 87, after a battle with kidney failure.

Born in Minya, Egypt, the future Patriarch studied in Rome and was ordained to the priesthood in 1960. He became Bishp of Minya in 1977, then Patriarch of Alexandria in 2006. He was raised to the College of Cardinals by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010. He retired in 2013 at the age of 77.

With the death of Cardinal Naguib there are now 212 living members of the College of Cardinals, of whom 119 are eligible to vote in a papal conclave.
