There is ample evidence that Jesus was indeed born on the day we now call Christmas. The best proof comes from the Archangel Gabriel, who told the Virgin that her cousin, Elizabeth, was six months pregnant (with John the Baptist). Since John would be born at the spring equinox, we know Jesus was born at the winter solstice, which in those days was December 25.
