Participants in Germany’s “synodal way” have approved a text on the role of women in the Church that challenges “the exclusion of women from the sacramental ministry.” Opposing bishops cited its incompatibility with Ordinatio sacerdotalis, St. John Paul II’s 1994 declaration that “the Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women.”
