The New York archdiocese will shut down Catholic New York, the archdiocesan newspaper, in November.

Catholic New York, long a weekly publication, had moved to a biweekly schedule. But the steady decline in circulation of diocesan publications evidently doomed the paper. The move comes shortly after the US bishops’ conference announced that it would close down the Catholic News Service.

The archdiocese plans to inaugurate an online substitute for the print paper, which will make its appearance after Catholic New York shuts down.
