Records of annual appeal collections in 25 geographically and demographically diverse dioceses from 2016 to 2020 show that, on average, diocesan appeals dropped 4% over the last 4-5 years. However, the Archdiocese of Boston declined the most among dioceses led by cardinals, down 26%, followed by Washington D.C., McCarrick’s final see, which declined by 23%.
