At the end of the event ”Economy of Francis,” on Saturday, November 21, confirmed is Pope Francis’ virtual participation with a Video-Message to the young participants, connected with the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, Italy.
The international event begins on Thursday, November 19, and gathers young economists and businessmen from around the world. It will be broadcast live in the portal francescoeconomy.org, reported a note of the Basilica.
On November 21, to celebrate the occasion, the monument to Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro will be illuminated at 11:00 pm (Italian time) with the symbolic colors of the Economy of Francis: green, brown, and yellow.
Inauguration
The Economy of Francis will be inaugurated this Thursday at 2:00 pm with the video “Listen to the Cry of the Poorest to Transform the Earth,” created by the ATD Fourth World International Movement, with the message of the Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, Cardinal Peter Turkson and the welcome of the Organizing Committee.
The talks will open that same day with economist Jeffrey Sachs on the theme ”Perfect Joy: Three Proposals to Allow Life to Flourish.”
Online Version
“The great worldwide Movement of Young Economists was born thanks to Saint Francis and to Pope Francis This is the news that society and the Church need today,” said the Scientific Director of the Economy of Francis, Luigino Bruni.
The event, in online version, will enable all registered young people (2,000 from 120 countries) to take part in the meeting in the same conditions, to share their experiences, works, proposals, and reflections developed over the last months.
Innovative Program
The program of this digital appointment will be innovative, participatory and global. There will be four daily hours of live streaming and a 24-hour marathon, on November 20, thanks to the connections and contributions of young people from 20 different countries.
Assisi will be the venue of the event’s “office,” with young people and a qualified group of experts, in a process of global change so that the economy of today and of tomorrow is more just, fraternal, inclusive, and sustainable, without leaving anyone behind.
The next face-to-face meeting will be held, of course, in Saint Francis’ city and is planned for the fall of 2021, when health conditions ensure the participation of all.
The organization has been entrusted to an Organizing Committee made up by the diocese of Assisi, the Seraphic Institute, the Assisi Municipality, Economy and Communion, and with the support, in the name of the Holy See, of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development — which is sponsoring the initiative –, and the Franciscan Families.
