Pope Francis on Sunday offered thoughts on victims of Hurrican Eta, which has ravaged parts of Central America and is heading toward Cuba and Florida. His reflection came after praying the noonday Angelus with the faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square.
“I see a flag there, that makes me think of the populations of Central America, hit in recent days by a violent hurricane, which claimed many victims and caused immense damage, aggravated by the already difficult situation of the pandemic.,” the Holy Father said. “May the Lord welcome the deceased, comfort their families, and sustain those most in need, as well as all those who are doing all they can to help them.”
Eta has turned toward Cuba and the southern tip of Florida, after leaving dozens dead and over 100 missing in Central America which it hit earlier in the week as a major hurricane.
