The Vatican distanced itself again from any involvement in the Spanish government’s decision to exhume the remains of the country’s late dictator, Gen. Francisco Franco. The statement, released by the Vatican press office July 21, was made in response to a recent interview in which Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez suggested that Pope Francis helped him resolve the divisive issue of exhumation.
