Appointment of bishop of Copiapó, Chile

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Copiapó, Chile, the Reverend Fr. Ricardo Basilio Morales Galindo, O. De M., former apostolic administrator “sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis” of the archdiocese of Puerto Montt.

Reverend Fr. Ricardo Basilio Morales Galindo, O. De M.

The Reverend Fr. Ricardo Basilio Morales Galindo, O. De M., was born in San Fernando, diocese di Rancagua, on 11 September 1972. He is a lawyer and holds a bachelor’s degree in theology, a licentiate in education, and a diploma in canon law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, and a Master’s degree in child, adolescent and family law from the “Diego Portales” University of Santiago, Chile.

He gave his religious vows on 24 June 2005 and received priestly ordination on 3 March 2006.

He has held the following offices: professor at the Centre of Formation – ENAC Caritas; national assessor for Mercedary Youth Pastoral Care, pastoral counselor of the “Colegio San Pedro Nolasco” in Santiago, provincial counselor, master of Mercedary Students, professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, defender of the bond and promoter of justice of the National Ecclesiastical Court, provincial superior and, from 11 June 2018 to 29 February 2020, apostolic administrator “sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis” of the archdiocese of Puerto Montt.

 

Appointment of auxiliary of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

The Holy Father has appointed as titular bishop of Tacia Montana and auxiliary of the archdiocese of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the Reverend José Amable Durán Tineo, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros, currently rector of the “Santo Tomás de Aquino” national seminary in Santo Domingo.

Reverend José Amable Durán Tineo

The Reverend José Amable Durán Tineo was born on August 13, 1971, in San José de las Matas, archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros.

He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the Seminary of Santiago de los Caballeros and on January 6, 2000, he was ordained a priest for the same archdiocese. He was awarded a licentiate in philosophy from the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra in Santo Domingo and a licentiate in fundamental theology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca, Spain. In addition, he holds a licentiate in youth pastoral care from Itapal in Bogotá, Colombia.

He has served as parish vicar, parish administrator, defender of the bond, vice-chancellor, parish priest, dean of the faculty of theology, and, since 2011, rector of the “Santo Tomás de Aquino” seminary in Santo Domingo.
