“The coronavirus pandemic has given us the opportunity to rethink our missionary service in Bangladesh. The Catholic Church in Bangladesh is always close to the poor and most vulnerable, with its limited resources, but with so much generosity and authentic charity. We express our gratitude because our community, in the Archdiocese of Dhaka, has been able to benefit from the Fund established by the Pope at the Pontifical Mission Societies”: says to Agenzia Fides Fr. Rodon Hadima, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Bangladesh.
The priest said: “Due to the lockdown imposed across the country, most people in Bangladesh have no job, no money to buy food and as a consequence suffer from hunger. The Christian faithful and our religious institutions are doing their best, sharing their resources to help solve this difficult situation, thus giving a precious testimony of faith and sharing of love. The source of inspiration is fraternity that was practiced by the first Christians at the time of the Apostles”.
As for the special emergency Fund established by the Pope at the Pontifical Mission Societies, the Bangladeshi population wants to give their contribution: “We have sent a letter of request to all dioceses and religious institutions, inviting to make donations, and everyone is responding, even with the very little they have. We hope to do our part as PMS of Bangladesh. On the other hand, we want to express our thanks because our community has been among the beneficiaries of this special PMS fund”.
The Director concludes: “This crisis gives us the opportunity to share our solidarity with the poor, the last and the rejected. The Catholic Church of Bangladesh is making every effort to be close to the people, with its limited resources, its support, the consolation that comes from Christ Jesus. In the name of Christ’s charity, our priests and volunteers have activated, throughout the country, works of charity, closeness, assistance to the sick, and those in need”.
