The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, presented by Bishop Alvaro Corrada del Río, S.J.
The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, the Reverend Ángel Luis Río Matos, of the clergy of the same diocese, judicial vicar and parish priest of “San Sebastián Mártir”.

The Reverend Ángel Luis Río Matos was born in Aguada on October 5, 1956. He carried out his early formation in the Secular Institute of the Missionaries of Charity Brothers, studying philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico and theology at the Pontifical Xavierian University of Bogotà, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in the two disciplines.
He was ordained a priest on January 11, 1985, for the diocese of Mayagüez.
After his studies in canon law, which ended with a doctorate, he served as vicar, administrator and parish priest in various parishes; he was head of youth and vocational pastoral care; spiritual director of the “Cursillos de Cristiandad”; professor of the Interamerican University; member of the College of Consultors and of the Commission for Social Provision for the Secular Clergy; and judge of the diocesan tribunal.
He is currently president of the diocesan tribunal; parish priest of “San Sebastián Mártir”, and lecturer of the School of Law of the Pontifical University.
